FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ZUZANA ANDREANSKA APPOINTED
DIRECTOR OF SLOVAK TOURIST BOARD
New York, NY, November 10, 2005
– Zuzana Andreanska has
been appointed director of the Slovak
Tourist Board in New York, succeeding
Jozef Steis.
A U.S. resident for 15 years with
experience in both tourism and business,
Andreanska is originally from Lipany,
a small town in Eastern Slovakia near
Presov. She holds a Masters degree
from the University of Economics in
Bratislava, the capital. In addition
to promoting tourism, she is also
responsible for developing closer
commercial relations between the U.S.
and Slovakia.
“With American travelers looking
for less expensive and ‘undiscovered’
European destinations, this is an
exciting time to be promoting tourism
to Slovakia,” says Andreanska.
“The country preserves all the
charm and traditions of the Old World,
but at the same time it is also undergoing
rapid change and economic growth that
give it a very exciting feel.
“Many Americans are still a
bit confused about which country Slovakia
is,” she adds. “The easiest
thing is to remember we are the mysterious
‘other half’ of the country
that used to be called Czechoslovakia.
“Among the reasons to visit
Slovakia are the majestic Tatra Mountains
– the Alps of the East, dozens
of centuries-old wooden churches built
without using a single nail, medieval/renaissance
old towns such as Levoca and Bardejov,
more than 300 castles, and a diversity
of cultural influences – the
result of medieval German settlers,
our long association with the Austro-Hungarian
Empire, Czechs, the Ukraine, and other
ethnic groups.
“Our capital Bratislava is
a fascinating combination of hip new
cafes, clubs and galleries on the
one hand with Roman artifacts, a pedestrianized
Old Town, the castle, cathedral, churches
and museums. All this in a country
twice the size of Vermont where prices
are lower than Western Europe and
people are unaffected and enthusiastic
about American visitors.”
